Shay Given will start for Ireland tonight after two years out

It’s a mixture of youth and experience for Ireland against Oman.

TWO YEARS AFTER announcing his retirement from international football, Shay Given will start in goal for the Republic of Ireland tonight as they get set to take on Oman at the Aviva Stadium.

The 38-year old won the last of his 125 caps against Italy at the European Championships in Poland in 2012 but returned to training with Martin O’Neill’s squad earlier this week, alongside three other goalkeepers; David Forde, Keiren Westwood and Rob Elliott.

Elsewhere Darron Gibson returns from his year-long injury nightmare. The Everton midfielder was stretchered off in a World Cup qualifier with Kazakhstan last October.
